Cindy Crawford’s beauty secret

NEW YORK—Earlier, a colleague excitedly shared news of her recent discovery: Cindy Crawford’s Meaningful Beauty.

At first I thought she was talking about one of the supermodel’s famous exercise DVDs. But, apparently, the celebrity supermom of two has launched her own skincare line, and according to this colleague, the products are effective and surprisingly affordable.

The introductory 30-day kit is only $30—wallet-friendly by beauty-industry standards.

“Beautiful skin shouldn’t have to cost a fortune,” says Crawford, who teamed up with Paris-based Dr. Jean-Louis Sebagh. According to the brand’s website, Crawford had first visited the European doctor 10 years ago when she’d heard about his “age maintenance” approach to skincare, and then later on (after noticing how her jet-set modeling lifestyle had begun to take a toll on her skin) “entrusted him with her million-dollar face and became a regular visitor to his office.”

The site further narrates: “But after her children were born, Crawford found herself spending less time in Europe. So she asked Dr. Sebagh if he could bottle his exclusive formulas and ship them to her. At first, the concept was inconceivable; the key ingredient, a patented melon extract, was simply too difficult to bottle. But after years of rigorous formulating and testing, Dr. Sebagh was successful—and Meaningful Beauty was born.”

These new beauty savers are marketed and produced under the Guthy-Renker group, the TV-direct-selling giant responsible for skincare and cosmetic hits like Proactiv Solution and Sheer Cover mineral powder makeup.

The seven-piece Meaningful Beauty kit has a Skin Softening Cleanser, Day Moisture cream, Night Fluide, Eye Crème, Facial Masque, Décolleté and Neck Crème and Glowing Serum (“It really makes your skin glow!” said my officemate.)

Since I’m halfway through my Berwick “Coming Up Roses” Nourishing Cream—the Bulgarian Damask Rose-based concoction I’ve been raving about—I’ll probably order up and find out first-hand what the (fashionable) fuss is all about.
